Sprinkler Information for the Do-It-Yourselfer

If you live in the Houston area and are looking for sprinkler information, this section is for you. Part of our mission is to inform the public about water conservation. With this in mind, we believe it is our responsibility to inform home owners as much as we can about their sprinkler system. With that in mind we have provided you with this section to give you a deeper understanding of your sprinkler system. This section is fairly brief and we welcome your questions. If you would like to see something added to this section of the website, simply email our webmaster and ask him to include it in this section. We welcome your feedback and will do our best to keep up dating this section. This is for you, the consumer so let us know what you want to learn more about. Thank you in advance for your feedback.

If you don't live in Houston, much of this sprinkler information still applies. For example, some of the details of backflow prevention may not apply to you due to state regulations. Also, sprinkler systems in the northern part of the country may have to bury pipes deeper than Houston to prevent  damage due to freezing. Certainly the watering guide could be much different in different areas of the country. But the overall concepts of designing, installing and repairing sprinkler systems is still covered.

In order to help you navigate the DYI sprinkler information better, we have broken down the types of information into four basic categories. DYI Sprinkler Installation covers measuring your property, getting the plan on paper, placing sprinkler heads, how to size irrigation pipe, picking the right backflow prevention device and installing your sprinkler components.

The second section is sprinkler maintenance and repair. This includes topics such as adjusting sprinkler heads, how to find a leak in your irrigation pipe and what to do about it, changing nozzles and what to do when you add a pool, or your plants have grown in front of your sprinkler heads and have to change your sprinkler system.

The third section in our DYI information is For the homeowner. It explains what a home should do, can do (legally), shouldn't do and can't legally do. This section covers some warnings about installing sprinkler systems in Houston and is based on Texas State law. Although there isn't much that a home owner can't do when it comes to their own sprinkler system, there are certainly things that can get them in trouble. We will help you avoid some of those things.

The next section is all about watering with an automatic sprinkler system. This section is written exclusively for the Houston sprinkler system. Here we cover water conservation, watering tips and the scientific rationale behind how to set up a watering schedule. The later is fairly technical and may be a bit difficult to read for the average person. However, if you are like us and are interested in the "why", then this section is for you. However, if you just want a good starting point and can adjust according to how well your plants are doing, then you don't need to read the section called ET Rates.

And finally, we have a newsletter that outlines tips for Houston sprinkler system owners. We put up a new newsletter about every month and try to give tips about the current season. So this is an area you may want to add to your favorites and check every month or so. Alternatively, we will send this to you via email if you subscribe to our newsletter.

As always, we are trying to improve the content of our website for the user. Please let us know if you are looking for something that you don't find on our website that is related to Houston Sprinkler Systems  or Sprinkler Systems in general. We will make every attempt to add it to our website.
