Key Benefits to Using a Designer
Benefit 1: Your sprinkler system will work!
It might sound simple, but the fact is that many people think that they can just put some pipe in the ground and attach heads and they have a sprinkler system. Well, it's not quite that easy. There are many considerations that must be accounted for in order for those heads to pop up and deliver the water they are suppose to deliver. Here are a few examples of what a designer must consider before ever putting a shovel in the ground:
| Elevation changes | Existing Water Pressure | Size of Water Meter |
| Distance of pipe runs | Volume of water (GPM) | Size of each pipe section |
| Speed of water in the pipes | Pressure the heads are designed for | Backflow Prevention |
| Boring under hardscape | Placement on controller | Placement on Valves |
| Pressure Drops in system | Amount of Water available per zone | Root systems |
| Underground utilities | Uniform Water Distribution | Water Conservation |
A good design will take all these considerations into account and an accurate drawing will be constructed. This is the planning step of any installation. A poorly designed irrigation system will either provide the nozzles with too much pressure, or too little pressure. either way, a nozzle is designed to operate at a specific pressure and operating outside of these ranges will result in poor coverage. Additionally, if the system is very poorly designed, the system may not operate at all.
Make sure that you first of all get a qualified irrigator or landscape architect to design your sprinkler system in order to ensure system reliability.

Benefit 2: Protect yourself from liability
You are (partially) responsible for anything that happens on your property. This includes any connection that is made to the public water supply. Therefore, it is important that you get a licensed irrigator to landscape architect to design the system including the connection to the water supply. Backflow prevention is a very serious matter. Using the wrong type or installing it improperly can put you at risk of contaminating the public water system. Don't make this mistake. Be extra cautious when it comes to connecting anything to the public water system.
